new addition

A new addition! Now, I know what you are thinking. For all that know us well, fear not. I did not give birth to this addition. Actually, he landed on our door step a few weeks ago looking for food, water, and a little lovin'. My kids were eager to offer all three. A good friend who works as a veterinary technician happened to be spending the day with us when this 10 month old puppy arrived. She said that he seemed healthy and treated him with a flea/tick preventative. So, he is now bug free, cleaned up, and loving his new home. I was opposed to the whole dog thing at first. I guess the thought of someone else to clean up after and feed was a bit overwhelming, but having a dog around does make me feel a bit safer and the kids have enjoyed him. Shortly after his arrival, Oliver was found sitting on top of the dog feeding him sticks. The dog happily took whatever the baby offered. Did I mention that he is already house trained? Yea, that is a plus. Oh, and we named him Finnegan or just "Finn."

beach bathing boys

So, at the beginning of the summer I made a comment about structuring our summer around long days at home with absolutely no chance of a vacation, and then in walks some new, great friends who decide to invite us (all five of us) to Myrtle Beach for a long weekend. Yea! We just returned home last night after four days of car rides, a lot of laughing, unending discipline, sand in our shorts, a bit of shopping, chasing babies who think that they can swim, good food, and an overall great time. Thanks, Chris and Erin!

important question

DSCN0067.jpg

Aidan's new toy of choice is a miniature Yoda figure borrowed from the Nichols boys. He has carried it in his shorts pocket each day for a week hoping for a chance to return it to his friends. He even sleeps with the ugly, little, green guy clutched in his hand. Sunday morning I woke up to Aidan sitting over me with one question heavy on his mind: He said, " Mom, why does Yoda wear this brown robe?" Surprising enough, I was able to come up with a quick answer that put an end to this perplexing question: "Well, you wouldn't want to see Yoda's bottom. Would you?" Aidan thought, shook his head no, and laughed for the next ten minutes. I am not sure what was funnier--picturing what this horrid creature's backside might actually look like or just hearing his mom say bottom. Anyway, I thought that it was funny.

fun, friends, and fireworks

I attempted to take pictures the day that the fire department opened all of the hydrants creating several great inner city streams right near our house. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the water lying down right in its path as it quickly ran down a side street. It was one of those moments when having small children and watching them freely play is a real joy. Unfortunately, my camera batteries died right away only allowing me to capture this one picture to remember our day.

The next week was filled with visits from good friends.

...and then the fireworks at Coolidge Park. Ollie was more into the balloons.
