pumpkins

these pictures were taken while chaperoning a recent field trip to a pumpkin patch. the trip included a hay ride, each child selecting their own pumpkin, some animal pettin,' and a picnic lunch on a 40 degree day...burrr!

while driving down the mountain this afternoon i was struck by the fall colors covering the beautiful trees alongside this winding road. surely it cannot be this late into the year...

it seems that the days and weeks passed so slowly when my little guys were quite a bit smaller. now that aidan is in school and our week quickly fills with different obligations and fun activities, these days, weeks, months are passing too quickly. i somehow have the expectation that each holiday and change of season should wait until i am prepared--selfish, i know. much of the fun of any particular season is in the preparations, and now that i am the mama responsible for making these moments memorable i find myself overwhelmed and ill-prepared. i am sure that the boys will not know the difference at this age. i guess that alone gives me time to catch up.

in celebration of aidan's first fall break, we all took a little vacation...not necessarily together, but we did all get a much needed rest. the boys were graciously received by their nana for a few days of some nice grandparent love while mark and i caught a flight to boston to visit the pierce's.

it is always strange to step outside of this little life that we have carefully prepared at home and open up to a new city and old friends. yesterday, a local friend mentioned that walking into someone else's home and engaging in conversation entails making yourself vulnerable enough for them to get a brief glimpse into your life. i would say that this is true. initially, it can be a bit uncomfortable, but how amazing it is to learn more of another person's joys and struggles as well as to be known.

all of that to say...thank you, thank you matt and laurie for your hospitality and interest in our family. you have seen us through dating, marriage, children, new jobs, new homes and all of the wonderful and challenging aspects of each.

we love you!

greatest coloring contest ever

aidan_cooley5.jpg

A few months ago a new veer promotional came in the mail sporting an activity book theme. Featured in the book was a page to color and send in to enter the "Greatest Coloring Contest Ever." I thought it was a clever idea and I decided to let Aidan have the fun.

Well, today they have announced the winners and link to the entries on their web page. Unfortunately, Aidan didn't win but his work is featured on the Veer website.
